Contessa 35

Contessa 35 - 1975/76  -  £29,950 The Contessa 35, designed by Doug Peterson and built by the well-regarded Jeremy Rogers Yard at Lymington in the mid-1970's, blends the pace of a competitive one-ton design with ample accommodation for comfortable cruising - one of the best-looking and performing dual-purpose "cruiser-racer" yachts of that era, Contessa 35’s were intended as cruiser-racers, and around 80 were built, some of these were fitted out and used more for racing than cruising however ‘Intuition’ has been used almost entirely for cruising by her only three owners from new. In her first ownership of over 30 years, she was kept in France from 1990 and only afloat for two months each summer. Her next owner from 2006 until 2020 kept her in Cornwall, and over that time, "Intuition" has received knowledgeable maintenance and regular renewals making this a fine example of the model. Even now a Contessa 35 is a very fast boat for her size, particularly to windward. However, unlike most more modern designs, she gets her speed from a big rig on a hull with a very high (over 50%) ballast ratio. This makes her an easy to handle and surprisingly docile cruising boat. When a modern production cruiser is getting overpowered and rounding up, the Contessa 35 will just heel a bit more and carry on going the way you want - You can always slow down a fast boat, but you cannot speed up a slow one..... ** E-Mail or Call us for a link to an extensive cloud based photo file** Accommodation 7 berths in saloon and forecabin with good headroom.
