Spectre is for sale. She is a F3 that is fully equipped for racing and cruising. The F3 was designed by the world renown yacht designer German Frers. She has a beautiful sheer line and hull shape that performs well both upwind and down. Between 1981 and 1983 George Hinterhoeller built 18 F3s with balsa core after leaving C&C and starting his own company. Spectre was one of the last F3s built in 1983. There have been no issues with water intrusion. George Hinterhoeller was also known for building the high quality Nonsuch cruising boats. Mr. Hinterhoeller's company built the F3 to the same high standard as the Nonsuch line and it shows in the finish work in the Nav station, galley, head and forepeak. Spectre is available for a fair price: $27,000 non-negotiable. She competed in the Detroit fleet for 3 decades. Her original owner was commodore of Gross Pointe Sail Club and he maintained Spectre to a high standard. The second owner is a certified diesel mechanic. He maintained the engine in tip-top shape. Her MWPHRF rating is 102. She receives a 3 second credit for racing with a roller furler which simplifies sail handling at mark roundings and for reducing sail area when cruising. She also has an ORC Club certificate for the Mackinac races. Spectre comes fully equipped with autopilot, Garmin instruments, GPS (with a small chart plotter), radar and all safety equipment to race to Mackinac. There are 16 racing sails, including 2 spinnakers and 1 asymmetric. With roller furling and the asymmetric she can be sailed by two people. For cruising there are cockpit cushions and a Stack Pack for ease of lowering the mainsail with the autopilot to do the steering for you. She comes with a propane stove (with oven), attractive head, comfortable berths for 8 and a dedicated nav station. F3s come with rod rigging which has about a 3 decade lifespan. The original owner replaced the rod rigging (and the keel bolts) around 2010. The second owner is a diesel mechanic by trade who has continued to maintain the boat to a high standard -- particularly the Westerbeke 27 hp engine.
