ImperiaWHY? The refit project took approx. 18 months and prepared the sailing vessel for long-distance offshore cruising. We refitted this classic ketch to newest standards because we believe this hull design (moderate long keeler) is no longer available in the quality and durability we expect for long-distance cruising. The appearance and features are classic and the systems were enhanced up to the newest standards. HOW? The boat was supervised by a boatyard in Germany, as well as by ourselves during the entire time. All upgrades regarding hull and deck were managed by the boatyard and done by professionals. The sails check was carried out by the sailmaker around the corner. The electrical system was planned, set up and connected by the local boat electronics expert who also operates as FURUNO, CZone and Mastervolt dealership. The engine mount and exchange was made by the Volvo Penta distributor in the region. All services and upgrades are documented via invoices and countless pictures that can be made available at any time. WHERE? The CIVETTA crew circumnavigated the Atlantic from September 2021 to June 2022. The boat can be visited in Wilhelmshaven. Overview of the refit: The hull got an osmosis treatment and coppercoat as antifouling (incl. new through hulls by True Design) resulting in three add. epoxy layers with 450g-glassfiber. -The deck was refurbished with two add. layers of 450g-glassfiber and antislip finishing. The sails were checked and renewed where necessary. A new Volvo-Penta engine (D2-60) was installed incl. 4-blade Variprop feathering prop. New Seldén furling system for both headsail systems. New standing rigging and new running rigging. The entire water system was rebuilt (water tank refit, new HEP hoses, new connections, new pumps, new sinks). The entire electrical system was reconstructed with CZONE, FURUNO and MASTERVOLT and fitted to the newest standards incl. NMEA2000 (new 12v- and 220v cables professionally calculated and always one diameter bigger than necessary, new connections, new batteries, new Furuno instruments). The diesel tanks were cleaned and new sealing fitted. All windows and hatches were completely refurbished and are all newly sealed. Complete refit of head and aft toilet (new design, new toilet bowls, new sinks, etc.). Two waste holding tanks were fitted (78L capacity in the center and 48L capacity in the head toilet). The waste tanks can be pumped out - This prepares the boat for upcoming regulatory requirements in many regions. Completely new seat covers and cushions. New vinyl in entire interior. All new LEDs implemented (red and white light) in the entire lighting system. New teak in cockpit. New Post Marine water heater and 5 heat exchanger distributed in cabins and galley (system is based on a non-failing HEP connection system) preparing for cold temperatures. New Andersen winches fitted (2x 46’ and 2x 40’). New anchor (Vulcan 25kg) and Lewmar 1500w windlass fitted (can be operated at winch and from cockpit.
